Ecuador Tourist Visas
Tourist visas in Ecuador are easy to get. You don’t need to apply in advance if you’re coming from the United States, Canada, Europe or most other countries. Just show up at the airport and get a 90-day tourist visa when they stamp your passport.
If you’re coming from Cuba, Haite or Venezuela, you’ll need to apply for a tourist visa before purchasing your airline tickets.
If you would like to stay an additional 90 days for a total of 6 months, you can apply for a tourist visa extension in Ecuador by visiting a ministry office when your 90-day tourist visa expires. You’ll need to submit an application and the fee is (currently) $133.
We’ve heard mixed experiences in terms of WHEN to go to the ministry office. One viewer went to the airport in Cuenca to get his extension a week before the original tourist visa expired and got the extension without any problems.
However, we heard from another traveler who went to the ministry office in La Libertad on day 89, which was a Friday, and was told to come back on Monday after the tourist visa expired. Note that most of the offices are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
