Cuenca Ecuador Museums

There are lots of Cuenca Ecuador museums that allow you to enjoy Ecuador’s art, history and culture. The public museums are free, including Pumapungo and the Museum of Modern Art. There are a few private museums that charge a reasonable entrance fee.

Cuenca Ecuador Mercados VLOG

Cuenca Ecuador Art Patricio Palomeque 1 Cuenca Ecuador Art Scene w/ Patricio Palomeque (Episode 117) (6/25/2019) - In this video, we had the great honor of interviewing a famous artist from the Cuenca Ecuador art scene, Patricio Palomeque. We attended his art exhibit opening almost a month ago with Christina (our new Spanish tutor) and thoroughly enjoyed it. So we made arrangements to return and talk to him in more detail about his art. This is a bilingual video. We have a lot of Spanish speaking viewers, so we wanted to share Mr. Palomeque's explanation of his art, as well as Christina's translation. If you don't speak Spanish, you can skip forward in the video to the English-speaking parts. Although, I did share video of some of the exhibits while Patricio was talking....
Top 10 Things To Do In Cuenca Ecuador Top 10 Things To Do in Cuenca Ecuador 2019 (Episode 109) (5/28/2019) - We've been in Cuenca for over a year and a half now and we're still finding new and exciting things to do, but we wanted to share our current Top 10 Things To Do in Cuenca Ecuador with you. These are the activities we did with our friends and family when they came to visit and they LOVED them. We never get tired of exploring Cuenca and the surrounding areas. Everywhere we look, there's something beautiful and historic to see...
Cuenca Ecuador Hat Museum Cuenca Ecuador Hat Museum + Lunch at Origami Sushi + La Chakra Mercado Natural (Episode 91) (4/11/2019) - The Cuenca Ecuador Hat Museum (Museo del Sombrero) is a nice place to model some Panama hats, learn their history and see how they're made. It's also a great place to drink a cup of coffee while enjoying the view of Cuenca. Several people have asked us about organic or natural stores here in Cuenca, so we show you two of them in this video. Plus, we had some delicious vegan sushi for lunch at Origami....
Cuenca Ecuador San Sebas Cuenca Ecuador San Sebas Neighborhood + Marc’s Consignments Tour (Episode 77) (3/9/2019) - This day in the life video features a walking tour of the Cuenca Ecuador San Sebas (or San Sebastian) neighborhood. We also stopped by Marc's Consignments, The Museum of Modern Art, a Vietnamese Pho restaurant run by our friend Rick, and a few other colorful places...
A Walk Around Cuenca Ecuador A Walk Around El Centro Cuenca Ecuador + Old Cathedral Museum Tour (Episode 70) (2/21/2019) - This was our day of firsts. We took a walk around El Centro Cuenca Ecuador and it was the first time we visited the newly renovated San Francisco Plaza. It was the first time we toured the Old Cathedral art museum. And it was our first time having lunch at Funky Sauce, a new vegan and vegetarian restaurant on the corner of 3 de Noviembre y Benigno Malo by the Tomebamba River....
Pumapungo Inca Ruins Cuenca Ecuador Step Back In Time at the Pumapungo Inca Ruins Cuenca Ecuador (Episode 31) (11/24/2018) - The Pumapungo Inca Ruins Cuenca Ecuador is one of Amelia's favorite places to visit. We both love walking around the beautifully landscaped grounds and learning about the Inca history. Entry is free and it's very peaceful and relaxing. If you're looking for fun things to do in Cuenca, this is at the top of our list. On the day we filmed this video, it was so windy that my microphone didn't work well so most of the audio was unusable. Instead of an Inca history lesson, you get to enjoy the beauty of Pumapungo with some relaxing music....

In 2008, Amelia popped into a pet store to buy som In 2008, Amelia popped into a pet store to buy some dog food for Allie, her feisty Apricot Poodle. It wasn’t her regular pet store, but she was in the neighborhood. As she walked in, she noticed the store was hosting an adoption fair, as those stores often do.

While grabbing Allie’s dog food at the back of the store, Amelia heard a high pitched bark, and much louder than the rest.

Although she didn’t go to the pet store that day to adopt another dog, she thought to herself, “If that’s a Toy Poodle, she’s going home with me.”

Alicia was very skinny, but full of life and demanding to be held, which was her preferred position at all times. They bonded immediately and Amelia filed the adoption paperwork, handing in her forms just before another couple who also wanted to adopt her.

It was meant to be.

I entered the picture in 2012 when Amelia and I started dating. Not long after, we had to put Allie to sleep. She was very old and in really bad health. I didn’t know Allie when she was in her prime, bounding up trails and playing in mountain streams. I arrived just in time for the hardest part of caring for a furry friend who rarely outlives us.

Alicia was already 12 years old when I met her, but small dogs live a long time and she was still very healthy. Her hair grew fast and since she always wanted to be held, it was often scraggly.

That’s what earned her the nickname I gave her: Muppet. She looked just like one of Jim Henson’s creations with her scraggly hair and her Ferengi fangs (a Star Trek reference for you non-geeks).

After moving to Ecuador, I adapted her nickname to Mupita Viejita, which means “Little Old Lady Muppet,” to better reflect her location and advancing age. Amelia thought my nicknames were funny, but she preferred to call her Licia or Tiny Little Poodle.

I will especially miss Amelia’s daily rendition of “Tiny. Tiny little Poodle. She’s my tiny little Poodle.” Amelia liked to sing this song as she carried out her daily activities	around the house, often with Licia in her arms.

Hola Unconventionals! Today is the BIG DAY!!! We'r Hola Unconventionals! Today is the BIG DAY!!! We're going to celebrate reaching our 50,000 YouTube Subscriber milestone with a Live Stream at 2PM Eastern/Ecuador Time over on our YouTube Channel.

It's hard to appreciate how big this milestone is for a YouTube Channel because so many channels seem to have millions of subscribers.

However, out of all the channels with at least 100 subscribers, only 1% have passed the 50,000 subscriber milestone.

We're STILL shocked and amazed that we're one of them! And that's why we want to celebrate with ALL of our subscribers AND especially our patrons with today's Live Stream event.

Thank you all SO MUCH for making this day possible!

¡Nos vemos pronto!
Amelia And JP
