If you missed our last video showing Stephen playing like a kid at Aventuri Cuenca, you can check that out here: Aventuri Adventure Park in Cuenca...
Hiking Upper Cajas Cuenca Ecuador Hiking in Upper Cajas National Park – Cuenca Ecuador (Episode 79) (3/14/2019) - On this excursion outside Cuenca, Ecuador, we went to Upper Cajas in the Cajas National Park. Entry into the park is free, but we did have to sign in at the building by the parking lot before venturing down the trail toward the lake...
Lower Cajas National Park Cuenca Ecuador Hiking in Lower Cajas National Park near Cuenca Ecuador (Episode 72) (2/26/2019) - We went on another hiking adventure just 40 minutes west of Cuenca to Lower Cajas, which is part of Cajas National Park. After a lot of research and reflection, we made the decision to sell everything we owned and leave the United States in search of a more unconventional life, in a more affordable and tranquilo part of the world.

Colombia has been on our list of must-visit places Colombia has been on our list of must-visit places for a long time. So after a lot of research and a few recommendations, we decided to embark on a journey to Medellín.

After a relatively short travel day from our home in Ecuador, we arrived in the vibrant neighborhood of El Poblado, with its bustling streets and lively atmosphere. Our AirBnB offered a breathtaking view of the city, allowing us to take in the beauty of Medellín from above.

One of the first things we noticed was the abundance of large trees, colorful flowers and plants with enormous leaves. It felt like we were walking through a jungle with a city in it!

As we explored the city, we stumbled upon a world of flavors at local restaurants like Kaime, AMA Restaurante, and Florez Food Garden. The food was so delicious that we found ourselves returning to the same places way too many times!

We spent our days soaking in the sun on the patios of these restaurants, surrounded by the sounds of people from all over the world speaking different languages. We felt right at home amidst the diversity.

As we walked the streets of El Poblado, Sabaneta, Laureles, La Floresta and other areas during our visit, we were impressed by how developed and modern it was. The city is truly special, full of life and energy.

Our trip to Medellín was far more surprising and memorable than we expected. And far too short! We left with full hearts, full bellies and a full camera, eager to share our experiences with you.

We can't wait to return to this beautiful city and continue our adventures, but next time, we'll stay longer than a week!

Our first time in Colombia did NOT disappoint! We absolutely LOVED our week in Medellín!

We stayed in an AirBnB in the El Poblado neighborhood, which is one of the most popular areas for tourists and expats from around the world. You can work all day and party all night!

We also visited several other areas in Medellin, such as Sabaneta, Laureles, La Floresta, El Estadio and others.

In this video, we talk about the top 10 things that surprised us the most about Medellin. While it was similar to a few places we've lived and visited in Ecuador, it was also quite a bit different.

When we moved to Manta Ecuador, Amelia and I both When we moved to Manta Ecuador, Amelia and I both fulfilled a dream to live in a highrise condo on the beach with an ocean view. The views from our balcony were breathtaking, and we spent many evenings sitting out there, sipping mocktails and watching the sunset.

Flocks of pelicans flew by our balcony regularly, and we loved to watch them glide gracefully through the air. Although we couldn't see the sunrise from our condo, the sunsets over the ocean were truly incredible.

We also enjoyed watching kitesurfers on occasion, and even had front-row seats to the swimming portion of the Manta Ironman competition. The high tide was quite loud, especially when it occurred early in the morning, but it was a small price to pay for the amazing ocean views.

One of our favorite things to do was walk to the neighborhood mercadito to buy fresh fruits and veggies from Yanki and her family. We also loved to eat at South Indian, a restaurant owned by our friend Ravi.

Although we don't live there anymore, the memories of our time in Manta will always hold a special place in our hearts. And we sure miss the views!

Since our viewers seem to love our real estate tours (based on the popularity of the past videos) we've decided to start doing them again. We are NOT real estate agents and we're not "pushing real estate."

A lot of our viewers want to see the types of homes that are available when they're researching their move to other countries, so they appreciate these tours. And we enjoy looking at properties and sharing them with you.

In this video, we visited the area known as Valle de los Chillos in the southeast corner of the Quito Ecuador Metro Area. It's about 30 minutes (in good traffic) to downtown Quito and 45 minutes to the Quito International Airport.

We toured 4 properties in 2 different golf course communities, with prices to fit almost any home buying budget.

Club los Chillos is a large gated housing development with a 9-hole golf course, olympic swimming pool, clay tennis courts, bar & restaurant, large fenced park, and several other amenities.

Club los Cerros is an exclusive golf course community with houses lining the perimeter of the 18-hole professional golf course. It also has a nice restaurant in the club house.

When Amelia and I lived in Olón, Ecuador, we ofte When Amelia and I lived in Olón, Ecuador, we often took evening strolls on the beach to watch the sunset over the ocean as the soothing sound of foamy white waves lapped the shore. The colors of the sky transitioned from yellow to orange to pink to purple.

Sunsets in Olón were a ritual for us, as well as other locals and tourists (when it wasn't cloudy). We all gathered to watch in awe as the sun took its daily plunge into the ocean while families played soccer on the beach, their laughter filling the air.

Evenings were also a favorite time for the neighborhood dogs to join the rest of us on the beach. They chased birds, kids and each other, adding to the lively atmosphere.

Children built sandcastles and little red crabs scurried around digging holes as the waves filled them back in. It was a constant battle the little crabs were destined to lose.

We moved away from Olón almost two years ago, and while we probably won't move back, we still miss the sunsets and our long walks on the beach.

Those sunsets will always hold a special place in our hearts. We may not be able to physically be there to watch them anymore, but the memories will stay with us forever.

JP's Sunday Morning Memory... As we walked throug JP's Sunday Morning Memory...

As we walked through the lush rainforest near Mindo, Ecuador, we didn't know quite what to expect. Our guide, Xavier, said he had something special he wanted to show us, but that was a monumental understatement!

These were the hummingbirds of San Tadeo Birding, known for their fearless nature and stunning plumage.

We made our way to a small clearing where Rolando, the hummingbird whisperer as we now refer to him, had more than a dozen feeders hanging from various hooks and tree limbs.

The hummingbirds fluttered about and whizzed by our heads like we were just another obstacle to barely avoid. It was like a dance, the way they moved so quickly and gracefully from feeder to feeder.

Rolando asked if we would like to hold a feeder in our hands to get up-close and personal with the hummingbirds. Of course we said yes! And held our breath as they landed on our hands, their tiny feet tickling our skin as they drank.

We watched in amazement as they flew circles around our heads, their wings a blur of motion. They were so close that we could feel the wind from their wings and see the shimmering iridescence of their feathers, each one a different shade of green, blue, and white.

It was an experience we will never forget, being surrounded by these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. The hummingbirds of Mindo captured our hearts, and we will always cherish the memories of this magical encounter.
